UPDATE (March 5, 2015): Both teams are doing well, we just raced at GatorBack again, and it was another mud-fest! Congratulations to Robin Frey on clinching the Silver Master-a season championship! Garrett and Smitty both got wins for us at GatorBack, as did Jimmy Tyson, Dan Aitken, and Jeff Marinko. Our Quad team has a commanding lead in the season points, and the Bike team holds 1st place by 6 points over Suncoast.
UPDATE (December 8th, 2014): We have had just had three Mud races in a row! The first was at Bartow, FL, then Samsula, and Plant City, FL. We added new team member Robin Frey (Silver Master-A) at Bartow (to replace the injured John Bergen), and he has given us three wins already! Smitty also each won his class at all three races! Greg Davis won at Bartow, and Garrett and Julie each got second. Garrett picked it up at Samsula and Plant City, winning both events, and Julie got another second at Samsula. Gates won this week at Plant City. With the Bike Team winning three events in a row, we are closing-in on First Place in the season points! The Quad team had been doing great! We managed to get 5 wins at Samsula (Jimmy Tyson, Jeff Marinko, Mike Rhoden, Dan Aitken, and Jeff Vlasin). We also got 3 quad wins at Plant City this weekend. Hell’s-Canyon Quads have a dominating lead in the season points!
UPDATE (Nov. 1, 2014): We raced at Hog Waller in Palatka, FL last week. The bike team did great with wins from Garrett in AA, Smitty in GM-A, and Greg in 66+. The quad team also did great with wins from Jeff Marinko, new team member Mike Rhoden (Utility), and Dan Aitken in Quad Vet. We also want to welcome new quad team members, Jadin Storey (Quad-Jr), and Jeffery Vlasin (Quad 30+) who both finished 2nd this week. The previous race was at Bartow, and we had wins from Garrett and Gates for bike team, and Jim Tyson for the quad team. Bike team is currently tied for 2nd place, and quad team is currently in 1st place.
UPDATE ( September 18, 2014): Well, it’s a new season, and we have completed 2 races (Maxville, and GatorBack). Currently, we are in 2nd place (of 8 teams).
I would like to introduce some new team members for this season: Gates Pelletier (Class of 66), and Garrett Edmisten (AA). Welcome guys!
We are also running a Hells-Canyon Quad team this year (currently in 3rd place of 4 teams). The quad team includes Dan Aitken (Q-Vet), Jim Cain (Q-Utility), Jimmy Tyson (Q-A), Robert Novak (Q-SSR), and Jeff Marinko (Q-400).
Last Season’s News Below:
UPDATE (June 13, 2014): Well, the season is over, and our team is the 2014 CHAMPION!!! Well, it is actually a tie with SCTB, but still CHAMPIONS!!! Great work everybody. I want to thank all the riders that ran for us this year, including: Greg Davis, Bill Girard, Dale Ellis, Julie Miller, Cal Smith, Logan Smith, Bernard List, Jason Garrett, John Bergen, and Clay Lyons. Our season was capped-off by great runs at Sumterville, and GatorBack. Our Championship was helped by a last-race melt-down from SCTB. I am looking forward to seeing all of you at the banquet. Congratulations to Greg Davis and John Bergen on winning the individual championships in their respective classes! Here is a link to photos I took at the GatorBack race: http://www.hells-canyon.com/Albums/14HS14A/#
Update (3/25/14): We had a strong run at Dade City; however, we got edged-out by our competition and missed-out on first place! Congratulations to Greg for his win, and to Julie, Bill Girard, and Clay for their 2nd place finishes! We are in the final stretch for the season, but all of the three remaining races are in jeopardy of being cancelled! Check out our new Directory of Photo Albums!
UPDATE (3/6/14): We are still in FIRST place after 11 races (4 to go, but some may get cancelled).
Race Report (2/4/2014): Well, Jason is out of the hospital and back at home recovering from his leg amputation! We hope to see him at a race soon (possibly Sumterville on 3/1-2? We raced in Okeechobee the last two weekends, and managed to do pretty good (even without Julie in the last race). Congratulations to John, Greg, Dale, Smitty, and Bernard for their efforts. We are still in FIRST place!!!
ANNOUNCEMENT: Hells-Canyon now has a QUAD team for Saturday’s races! Introducing the Hells-Canyon “Quad-Tards”! We finished in 2nd place last week, and we are hoping to win next week when we race at Myaka once again! Keep tuned for more details.
Race Report (1/7/2014): Last weekend’s race was at Mondon Hill in Brooksville, FL. I thought it was an awesome track. I did not race vintage on Saturday due to a vodka accident, but I had a lot of fun doing 2 laps on Sunday without crash or injury. Bill Girard is out for a month due to injury, and we have replaced him with another Class of 66 rider, Greg Davis (#6X). Greg got a first place finish this week! Also, John Bergen finished 1st in SSA. Julie “managed” to get 2nd. We also had strong runs from Cal, Bernard, and Clay. As a result, HCRT finished First this week,a nd we have regained the overall season points lead! We also had an awesome BBQ on Saturday night (thanks Dale!). Here is a short video of the start from Tom Glancy: http://vimeo.com/83552070.
Update on Jason Garrett: Jason has had his last surgery (at least for a while, and he will be going home soon). In case you didn’t hear, his right leg has been amputated below the knee. See Home-Page link for more info.
Race Report (12/18/13): We raced at Carlton Ranch in Myaka this week – the same track where I (Still Bill) was injured last year. I ran Vintage on Saturday and did 3 laps taking 3rd place out of 5 bikes. I am currently in 1st Place in the season standings! I ran Sunday and did 2 laps, but I am still very slow. I had a lot of fun though! A BIG WELCOME to John Bergen, our newest HCRT member. John replaces the injured Jason Garrett, and he has four wins already this season! John placed 2nd on Sunday. Big Smitty (Cal) took First Place in GM-A, and Bill Girard managed to get 3rd in his class (66+), as did Clay in AA, despite a long pitstop. Bernard got a 5th place, and Logan ran a new bike in a new class this week (250-B). Dale had some mechanical problems and I actually beat him! Julie took the week off.
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE! Here are some photos of our current and former HCRT members in action this week, along with some friends and great scenic shots from Glen Gardner!: www.hells-canyon.com/Albums/Carlton Ranch/index.html Here is a video of this week’s track: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bn5OWKR5Ql4&feature=share&list=UUlWV7YFHwwaSJ2mhLp18KmQ
Race Report (12/4/2013): Last weekend’s race was at Samsula, and it was another tough and muddy course. Julie managed to get 2nd place, and so did Bill Girard. Smitty placed 3rd and so did Bernard, but somehow a course worker with dirty glasses put him down for a DQ! Clay had a bit of a run-in with a tree. Logan rode his dad’s bike and managed a 5th. Dale Ellis spent most of the day stuck in a mud puddle, but still did better than me! We have sunk back to 2nd place. Jason Garrett is still in the hospital – GET WELL SOON JASON!
UPDATE and Race Report (11/28/13): Bad News! Jason Garrett (# 41 Vet-A) suffered a bad injury competing in the SuperCross race at the Mini-Os at GatorBack this week. He is at home recuperating from a broken leg, and waiting for additional surgery. He is in good spirits though, and I’m sure he will be back racing for us next year. Anyhow – our last race was at Maxville in N. Florida. Sunday’s race featured some deep mud holes. HCRT did not have any 1st or 2nd place finishes, but we had five top-5’s, and that was enough for us to regain FIRST PLACE in the season standings! We will be racing in Samsula this weekend. Also: We welcome Dale Ellis (Master-C #117) to the team!
Race Report (11/18, 2013): We raced at Bartow again last weekend, and once again
both Julie and Bill Girard finished in First Place! Cal (Smitty) got a third, while Clay and
Jason both got 4th place. This puts us in 2nd place in the overall season standings!
Race Report (Strickland Ranch, Ormond Beach, FL): Well, Julie won again, and
Calvin managed to get 2nd place. Jason and Bernard both finished third, which was
good enough to give HCRT 3rd place overall – leaving us tied for 1st in the season standings!
Race Report (Bartow Badlands 9/22/13): We got the season off to a great
start. Our new members Julie Miller and Bill Girard both WON their class. Jason and
Clay both finished 2nd in their divisions! Cal had a strong race in Master B, getting
a 5th place finish. This puts us in FIRST place overall, and Dirt Poor Racing did
not even field a team!
